DINING
CASA BLANCA has a kitchen, equipped with refrigerator, sink and range top, but half the fun is dining out. We recommend buying food for breakfasts and lunches at the local supermarket in Tulum, then enjoying a restaurant from the list below in the evening.
There are many very fine restaurants within fifteen minutes or less from CASA BLANCA. Five of our favorites are located along the road from Tulum to CASA BLANCA. We have eaten in all of these restaurants many times and have never had a problem. Always order bottled water.
HECHIZO. (means Enchantment) The ultimate dining experience in Tulum is in Rancho San Eric compound only 10 meters away from Casa Blanca. Hechizo is a five star restaurant and has been featured in FOOD AND WINE, May 2005 issue. The owners/chefs are a young couple, Hui, from Singapore, and her husband, Stefan Schober (who grew up on this beach. His mother and father live next door.) Stefan was trained at the Austrian Culinary Institute and has worked at Ritz Carlton Hotels as chef all over the world. He met and married Hui, who was the pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton in Singapore. Hui and Stefan do all the cooking themselves, and reservations are hard to come by. Of course, we will be happy to make reservations for your group when you book into Casa Blanca.
ZAMAS owned by a San Francisco couple who live part-time in Mexico. It is located on a beautiful beach with beach side or inside dining. There is a relaxed informal atmosphere. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Specialties include chicken, fresh fish, shrimp, lobster and pizza. No reservations required.
POSADA MARGHERITA. This restaurant is gaining in popularity. We have enjoyed several excellent meals here. They specialize in fresh fish and Italian cuisine. Now with their new popularity you may need advanced reservations.
ANA Y JOSE. A long time favorite in the area. Owned by local Mexican couple who have retired and is now managed by their son and daughter. This is a unique experience with a large palapa roof and sand floor. Their specialties are fish, fajitis, and Bananas Foster, flamed at your table. No reservations required.
LAS RANITAS. Owned by a delightful French couple who live part time in Mexico, Paris or their home in the South of France. This is a private home turned into a small hotel and restaurant. They have a lovely intimate dinning room or a patio outside. The food is excellent. Their specialties are also fresh fish and shrimp. Be sure to have dessert. Because they are rather small, they like to know in advance when and how many will be coming. Just stop by anytime. They are on the road between Casa Blanca and Ana and Jose's.
